Seismologists registered a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.1 150 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where it was felt with a force of about 6 points, the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported.
According to published information, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 149 km southeast of the regional capital at a depth of 17 km.
A tsunami threat has been declared on the coast of Avacha Bay.
