The spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia confirmed that as of 00:01 on August 4 (20:01 on August 3 Bulgarian time) the situation on the line of contact with Thailand remains calm. However, the Cambodian armed forces continue to maintain high combat readiness, the state news agency AKP reported, BTA reports.

The ministry urged the public to only get information from official sources and not to succumb to fake news.
The territorial dispute between Cambodia and Thailand over parts of their shared border, which dates back to the days of French Indochina, has been going on for decades. The last serious conflict dates back to 2011.
The artillery shelling and air strikes last month killed at least 35 people and forced the evacuation of about 200,000 people from their homes.
