A Mexican federal prosecutor was shot dead in the city of Reynosa, located on the US border, where the illegal trade in drugs, fuel and people flourishes. This was announced by the governor of the state of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal, quoted by Agence France-Presse, reports BTA.
“The authorities of Tamaulipas condemn the assassination attempt against a representative of the Attorney General's Office in the state“, Villarreal wrote on the social network “Ex“.
According to local media, prosecutor Ernesto Vázquez Reyna was shot dead in his official car while traveling along one of the main boulevards in Reynosa – across the border with the United States, opposite the city of Hidalgo, Texas.
“According to initial reports, witnesses heard gunshots in the area“, Tamaulipas security services reported on their social media channels. Media outlets shared videos showing an unconscious man lying in a pool of blood next to a black car engulfed in flames in the middle of the road.
The Mexican Attorney General's Office has not yet commented on the case.
