The Thai government has approved the payment of compensation to the families of soldiers killed in the recent border conflict with Cambodia. Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Vechaichai said each family would receive 10 million baht (267,702 euros), Reuters reported, BTA reports.

Families of civilian victims will be compensated with 8 million baht (214,253 euros), Vechaichai said after a cabinet meeting.

A ceasefire between the two countries was agreed last Monday at a meeting in Malaysia with the mediation of the United States and under the supervision of China. This came after five days of intense fighting, which included artillery shelling and air strikes.

The clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border were the worst in a decade. 43 people were killed and more than 300,000 locals on both sides were forced to flee their homes, Reuters recalls.
