Five killed in Ukrainian attack in Luhansk region - 1

Five municipal workers were killed in a Ukrainian attack in the Russian-controlled Luhansk region, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing a statement from local authorities.

Moscow-appointed regional governor Leonid Pasechnik wrote on the Telegram app that four workers were trying to maintain the water supply system in the town of Svatovo when they were killed in air strikes.

The head of the regional health service, quoted by the Russian state news agency TASS, later said that an injured worker died of his wounds in hospital.

Luhansk region is one of four Ukrainian regions that Russia annexed in 2022, along with Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions – seven months after the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Reuters recalls.

In June, Moscow said it had secured control of the entire territory of Luhansk region. Russia also controls parts of the other three regions.

Two people were killed by a remotely controlled Russian drone in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, DPA reported, quoted by BTA, referring to a statement today on the communication application "Telegram" by the regional governor Ivan Fedorov.

Fedorov explained that the men were standing near a house in the Stepnogirsk municipality, which is located not far from the front line.

Ukraine is fighting Russian troops who invaded its territory in February 2022.

That night, Russia and Ukraine attacked each other and hit each other's strategically important railway lines.
