Water regime introduced in Izmir - 1

As of today, the Water and Sewerage Directorate of the Izmir Greater Municipality (İZSU) is introducing a water regime in the time range between 23:00 and 05:00 (local time) in the territory of the western Turkish city due to the critically low levels of the dams that supply it, the website “Hürriyet Daily News“ reported, BTA reported.

As the reason for the decision, local authorities cite the critically low water level in the Tahtalı Dam, which is the main source of water for the city of four million, and the complete shutdown of the supply from the Gördes Dam, which also provides water to some of the neighborhoods of Izmir. The measure will affect different areas of the city on certain days between August 6 and 21, as local authorities seek to reduce the negative impact of the water regime.

The water regime in the resort town of Cesme, also located in the Izmir district, was also extended over the weekend, with the regime introduced on July 24 from 23:00 to 06:00 (local time) now covering the time period between 23:00 and 09:00 (local time). According to local authorities, the water level in the Kutlu Aktaş Dam, which supplies Cesme, currently has dropped to just 2.9 percent of its full capacity.
