Donald Trump back in the White House! The Russian military has doubled its attacks on Ukraine - 1

Russia has more than doubled the number of its drone and missile attacks on Ukraine since Donald Trump returned to power in the White House in January of this year, despite his public calls for a ceasefire. This is according to a BBC analysis based on data from the Ukrainian Air Force.

Between January 20 and July 19, Russia fired 27,158 missiles and drones into Ukraine, compared with 11,614 in the last six months of Joe Biden's term.

The attacks have increased sharply in number since Trump's election victory in November 2024, with data showing they have reached their highest levels since the war began.

After a brief reduction in strikes at the start of Trump's presidency, attacks have escalated again following a meeting in Riyadh between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in February.

A record 748 missiles and drones were fired in a single day on July 9.

Despite criticism of Russia, Trump's angry statements have not changed strategy of Moscow. After the massive shelling on May 25, Trump indignantly asked: "What the hell happened to Putin?" He later called on the Kremlin to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine by August 8.

During his election campaign, Trump promised that he would stop the war "in one day" and claimed that the invasion would have been prevented if the United States had had a president in 2022 whom the Kremlin "respected".

However, his administration has twice - in March and July - suspended arms supplies to Ukraine, which critics say has allowed Russia to increase its own weapons production.

Ukrainian military intelligence reports that Russia's production of ballistic missiles has increased by 66% in a year, reaching 85 missiles per month. Moscow is also producing around 170 Geran drones a day at a newly opened factory in Alabuga, described as the "largest of its kind in the world."

Satellite images confirm the expansion of the Alabuga factory, and construction of new warehouses and housing for workers continues.

Russia has increasingly demonstrated that it is strengthening its military capabilities, despite diplomatic efforts for peace.
