A US serviceman was arrested in Texas while trying to pass on information intended for Russia regarding the operational characteristics of the M1 Abrams tank.
This was announced by the US Department of Justice on Wednesday.
“The defendant attempted to transfer confidential information related to national defense and the operation of the M1A2 Abrams to Russia“, the press service of the department quoted US Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Eisenberg.
According to the Ministry of Justice, in July the arrested person handed over “detailed documentation“ for the M1 Abrams and discussed the transfer of one of the “tank equipment components“. In late July, 22-year-old Taylor Lee delivered the promised detail to the specified location, after which he was detained. The FBI and the US Army Counterintelligence Command are investigating.
