The United States has begun construction of a detention center for illegal immigrants at the military base "Fort Bliss" near the Mexican border, the Defense Ministry announced, quoted by AFP, BTA reports.
According to Pentagon spokeswoman Kinsley Wilson, work has been underway since mid-July to create an initial capacity for 1,000 people, which is expected to be reached by mid-to-late August. The plan calls for the number of detainees to reach 5,000 in the coming months.
President Donald Trump has made the expulsion of illegal immigrants an absolute priority. Earlier this year, he announced plans for a detention center with a capacity than 30,000 people at the military base “Guantanamo“ in Cuba.
