Former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Webster has died in the United States at the age of 101, the FBI announced on its website.
“The FBI extends its condolences to the family of William Webster“, the agency said in a press release. It notes that Webster "has served his country for more than 60 years," including in the U.S. Navy and federal court.
Webster led the FBI from 1978 to 1987 and the CIA from 1987 to 1991. As The Wall Street Journal notes, he is the only person in American history to have led both intelligence agencies.
