Israel's plans for the Gaza Strip are condemned and rejected, and their implementation is fraught with aggravation of the already dramatic situation in this territory. This is stated in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The diplomatic department noted that on August 8, the Israeli military-political cabinet approved a plan to expand the military operation in the Gaza Strip and take control of its once most densely populated central region. “It is expected that in the near future there will be no civilians left there. All of them will be subjected to forced expulsion.“ "The intention of the Israeli side to gradually seize and occupy the entire sector is not hidden," the Russian diplomatic mission noted.
“The implementation of such decisions and plans, which are condemned and rejected, is fraught with aggravation of the already extremely dramatic situation in the Palestinian enclave, which has all the signs of a humanitarian catastrophe," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Russia is firmly convinced that there is no alternative to resolving the Palestinian problem on an international legal basis with a central two-state principle, which provides for the creation of an independent Palestinian state, coexisting in peace and security with Israel, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
“Russia reaffirms its unwavering position on the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of all hostages and detainees, as well as the restoration of unhindered humanitarian access.“ Moscow is firmly convinced that there is no alternative to resolving the Palestinian problem on the well-known international legal basis with a central two-state principle, providing for the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem, coexisting in peace and security with Israel“, the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
The implementation of Israel's plans to occupy the Gaza Strip will complicate all efforts to de-escalate the conflict in the region, with negative consequences for the entire Middle East, the statement said.
The ministry noted that on August 8, the Israeli military-political cabinet approved a plan to expand the military operation in the Gaza Strip.
“It is obvious that this will significantly complicate international efforts to de-escalate the conflict zone, with serious negative consequences for the entire Middle East region“, the statement said.
