At least eight fires broke out in the province of Leon this weekend, affecting areas of significant cultural value such as Las Medulas, a World Heritage Site. Several towns near the ancient Roman gold mines were evacuated. According to a report from the fire department, houses have burned down.
In addition, during the current heat wave in the city of Ourense, also in the province of Leon, two fires were registered, which have burned down 1,000 hectares.
The fires in two municipalities in the province of Zamora are still not under control. The flames erupted and forced the evacuation of about 350 people.
