Three people died last night in the city of Austin in the US state of Texas after a gunman opened fire in the parking lot in front of a Target store, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA, citing a statement from the city's police chief.
The suspect has been arrested, law enforcement officials said.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said at a press conference that the suspect stole a car after the shooting and fled the scene. But the shooter later crashed the car and stole another car before being caught on the south side of the city, where he was arrested.
According to the police chief, officers who arrived at the scene of the shooting found three victims in the parking lot of a Target store. Davis also said the suspect is a white man about 32 years old with a "history of mental illness."
The shooting occurred during the back-to-school shopping season in the United States. The Target store chain did not immediately respond to an AP request for comment.
