State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce outlined her position that Washington does not view the upcoming meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, between US and Russian Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin as talks about Ukraine.
“Let me remind you that the president is not calling this a talk. He did not ask for this meeting“, Bruce said at a regular briefing to journalists.
“He noted that the goal is to understand what's going on, what's possible. So I think talks is the wrong word“, Bruce emphasized.
In response to a question about whether the US is ready to use tools to pressure Russia, a State Department representative noted that “Trump has a lot of tools“. "But I don't know what approach he's going to take," Bruce stressed.
