Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Qatar on August 13-14, diplomatic sources reported, quoted by the Anadolu Agency (AA) for BTA.

This will be his third visit to the country this year.

The growing strategic partnership between Ankara and Doha and new opportunities for cooperation in the coming period are expected to be discussed during the visit. Among the main topics will be preparations for the 11th session of the High Strategic Committee, which will be held in Doha under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as consultations on regional issues, including the situation in Gaza and Syria.

Fidan will discuss the latest international efforts to recognize the State of Palestine, reaffirm Turkey's support for Qatar's mediation initiatives with the participation of Egypt and the United States to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, and express Ankara's readiness to assist any constructive initiative. The talks are expected to cover steps to stop Israeli attacks, as well as measures to advance the two-state solution.

As the current chairman of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Fidan will also discuss preparations for the organization's upcoming meeting, initiated by Turkey. Joint efforts between Ankara and Doha for stability and security in Syria, including capacity-building projects and countering actions that hinder the stabilization of the country, will also be discussed.

The High Strategic Committee, established in 2015, is the highest institutional framework of Turkey-Qatar relations. The two countries alternate as hosts, and 10 meetings have been held so far, leading to the signing of 107 agreements in various fields. The last meeting was held in Ankara on November 14, 2024, and the next one will be in Doha later this year.

Cooperation between Turkey and Qatar continues to expand in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, energy and contractual relations, AA notes.
