A Texas school bus carrying more than 40 students overturned after veering off a rural road on the first day of school, injuring several students, authorities said, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
At least one person is in critical condition, and two others have "potentially life-threatening injuries," Kevin Parker of Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services said during a news conference.
The bus was traveling on a rural stretch of two-lane road when it veered off the right side "for an unknown reason" and overturned, said Sgt. Billy Ray of the Department of Public Safety, adding that authorities were still investigating the cause of the crash.
Video from the scene showed the yellow school bus lying on its side next to the road with a damaged roof and several broken windows.
School and emergency officials said there were 42 children on the bus, and the driver was among 12 people taken to hospitals. Officials did not say whether the person with life-threatening injuries was a student or the driver.
