The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has temporarily lifted some sanctions against Russian citizens for a period of one week, US authorities said, quoted by the BBC.
The decision is in connection with the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15. The OFAC license allows until midnight on August 20 to carry out transactions "necessary for attending or supporting" the summit in Anchorage.
Many Russian officials who are to be part of Putin's entourage during foreign trips are under US sanctions and are banned from entering the US. The temporary lifting of restrictions is intended to facilitate their participation in the meeting.
