Tomorrow's meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska represents a real opportunity to make progress toward ending the war in Ukraine, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
Starmer said after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in London that "both (are) agreed that there is a strong sense of unity and a firm determination to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine".
Starmer and Zelensky also discussed the upcoming talks between Trump and Putin, expressing hope that they could lead to real progress, as long as Putin shows with actions that he really wants peace.
Zelensky visited London to strengthen support from European countries and oppose any initiatives to end the war that would lead to the surrender of Ukrainian territory, Reuters notes.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he had discussed in detail possible security guarantees for Ukraine during a "productive meeting" with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London, Reuters reported.
"We discussed in considerable detail security guarantees that could make peace truly lasting if the United States succeeds in pressuring Russia to stop the killings and engage in real, substantive diplomacy," Zelensky wrote on the "Ex" social platform.
He added that the leaders also touched on the topic of investment in Ukrainian drone production.
