Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attracted public attention with his choice of clothing upon his arrival in Alaska for the US-Russia summit, DPA reports, BTA reports.
Lavrov, who has led Russian diplomacy for the past two decades, was wearing a white sports T-shirt with the inscription "USSR", the abbreviation for the former Soviet Union.
Russian media speculated whether the choice of clothing was intended to provoke the American hosts on their territory or to send a signal to the other former Soviet republics.
Ukraine, which was part of the Soviet Union until it declared its independence in 1991, will be among the main topics of the talks in Alaska, DPA notes. The conflict, started by Moscow against Ukraine in 2022 remains a key issue on the meeting's agenda.
Lavrov refused to make predictions about the outcome of the summit between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
“We are not making any predictions“, he said upon arriving in Anchorage. “We know that we have our arguments, and our position is clear and unambiguous. We will state it“, the Russian foreign minister added, as quoted by Agence France-Presse.
