A magnitude 6 earthquake shook the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula today, the German Geophysical Institute reported, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.

The epicenter of the quake was at a depth of 10 km. Residents of the Russian city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky felt the strong tremor, the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) reported, quoted by TASS.

According to the latest data, the epicenter of the earthquake was 97 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

On the morning of July 30, an even stronger earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 was recorded off the coast of Kamchatka, the most powerful in the region since 1952. A state of emergency was declared on the peninsula. The tremor was also felt in Severo-Kurilsk and caused a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean. Tsunami warnings were issued by authorities in Japan, the United States and the Philippines, TASS recalls.
