Ukrainian army strikes key Russian port in Astrakhan with drones - 1

The Ukrainian army has attacked the port of the Russian city of Astrakhan in the Volga River delta, near the Caspian Sea, with combat drones, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

"As a result of repelling the attacks, debris from a downed drone damaged a ship," Astrakhan Region Governor Igor Babushkin said today on "Telegram".

He added that all drones were repelled and the port infrastructure was not damaged, and that there were no casualties or injuries.

The attacked port facilities are located more than 800 kilometers from the territory of Ukraine.

"This facility is used by the Russian aggressor as "an important logistics center for the supply of military equipment from Iran," the Ukrainian General Staff explained on Telegram, justifying the attack.

A ship carrying parts for the Shahed combat drones and ammunition from Iran, was damaged.

The head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Andriy Yermak, also commented on the attack.

“If there is an intention to transport parts for weapons and drones that kill Ukrainians, then we should not be surprised if this transport vehicle starts to sink,“ he wrote on "Telegram".

Yermak also published a photo showing the damaged ship.

Ukraine, which has been defending itself from a full-scale Russian invasion for almost three and a half years, often attacks targets deep inside Russian territory, DPA reports.
