The minority leader in the US Senate – Democrat Chuck Schumer criticized US President Donald Trump's attitude towards his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during their meeting in Alaska last night, saying that Trump had "rolled out the red carpet for the authoritarian thug Vladimir Putin", the American television channel NBC News reported, quoted by BTA.
"Instead of standing with Ukraine and our allies, Trump stood shoulder to shoulder with an autocrat who has been terrorizing the Ukrainian people and the world for years", Schumer wrote on the social network "Ex".
The senator echoed the statements of other Democrats that the meeting did not lead to progress towards ending the war.
"While we await important details about what was discussed - at first glance it appears that Trump gave Putin legitimacy, a global stage, zero accountability and received nothing in return. "We fear that this is not diplomacy, but just theater," he added.
