Strong storms with wind gusts of up to 100 km/h hit the northern part of the state of Illinois, where many Bulgarians live, NOVA reported.
The storms also brought hail the size of ping-pong balls.
The storm caused serious damage in the suburb of Mount Prospect, where the Bulgarian cultural center “Bulgarica” and a famous Bulgarian pastry shop are located. This apartment building is also part of a complex in which at least 5 Bulgarian households live.
The roof of the building was not just damaged, but blown away as if by a tornado. There is damage to cars, windows, the parking lot and residents' terraces.
The area is cordoned off, and police and fire departments are not allowing anyone to pass through. There is no information yet about any injuries.
