China expects all parties involved in the Ukraine crisis to participate in peace talks to ensure a lasting agreement accepted by all parties, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
“We hope that all parties and stakeholders will join the negotiations in a timely manner and reach a fair, lasting, binding and mutually acceptable peace agreement as soon as possible“, she told a news conference.
European leaders will join Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for talks with his US counterpart Donald Trump in Washington today - three days after Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Commenting on the Trump-Putin meeting, Mao Ning said Beijing supports all efforts to peacefully resolve the crisis in Ukraine and will cooperate with its own methods.
“We continue to convince the parties in our own way of the need for negotiations“, she added in response to a question about whether China is ready to guarantee Ukraine's security if a ceasefire agreement is reached.
China “welcomes the maintenance of contact between Russia and the United States, the improvement of their relations and their contribution to a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis“, the spokeswoman added.
