Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Kiev is striving for a “reliable and lasting peace“ after the war with Russia and that he is ready to establish a “new security architecture“, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
“Our main goal is a reliable and lasting peace for Ukraine and for all of Europe. And it is important that the momentum from all our meetings leads to this result“, Zelensky wrote on the social network “Ex“ before his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
“Ukraine is ready for a real truce and the establishment of a new security architecture. We need peace,” he added.
The Ukrainian president said European leaders had coordinated their positions before meeting Trump at the White House, the Associated Press reported.
“We should not expect Putin to voluntarily abandon aggression and new attempts at conquest,“ Zelensky wrote. He shared a video showing European leaders greeting each other and hugging during an earlier meeting in Washington.
“Therefore, pressure must work, and it must be common – from the United States and Europe, from everyone in the world who respects the right to life and the international order," he added.
European leaders have begun arriving at the White House for a meeting dedicated to efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine, hosted by US President Donald Trump, the Associated Press reported.
The first to arrive was NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, followed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

An air traffic control alert sounded in the Ukrainian capital Kiev this evening - shortly before the start of negotiations between Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington, journalists from Agence France-Presse reported.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced that an alert had been activated across the country due to the takeoff of a Russian MiG-31 aircraft carrying hypersonic "Dagger" missiles used by Russia to bomb its neighbor, AFP reports.
