North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un has called for a “rapid expansion“ of the country's nuclear arsenal, describing ongoing US-South Korean military exercises as a growing risk to national security. This was reported by AFP, reports News.bg.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), during an inspection of the destroyer “Cho Hyon“ Kim stressed that Washington and Seoul are "strengthening their military ties and demonstrating force, which is the most obvious manifestation of their desire to incite war and is a source of destruction of peace and stability in the region."
The North Korean leader's statement and the holding of the joint exercises coincided with a declaration by South Korean President Lee Jae-myun. He said Seoul would take "proactive, gradual steps" to restore the 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, which provides a framework for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
