European leaders are considering the possibility of a new package of sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine, the British government reported, quoted by "Reuters".
During a virtual meeting of the so-called Coalition of the Willing, participants agreed that their planning teams would work together with American colleagues in the coming days to move forward talks on security guarantees for Ukraine.
A spokesman for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office said that plans are also on the agenda to "prepare for the deployment of a stabilization force if the military action ends". According to him, the leaders also discussed "how to put additional pressure on Putin - including through sanctions - until he shows a willingness to take serious steps to end the illegal invasion".
On Monday, US President Donald Trump assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that America would help ensure Ukraine's security as part of a possible deal to stop the war with Russia. However, it is not yet clear what the scale of American assistance will be.
