During an operation in Northern Syria on August 20, the US military eliminated a high-ranking member of the “Islamic State“ group, who was preparing to become the next leader of the terrorist organization in the country.
This was reported by the Fox News channel, citing an American official.
The operation was declared “successful“. During it, another key functionary of the group was also killed. According to the source, both killed were actively planning terrorist attacks in Syria and Iraq.
The source noted that the eliminated fighter is a strong candidate for the role of “leader of the group in Syria“ and would pose a direct threat to US forces, the coalition and the new Syrian government. No American military or civilian personnel were reportedly injured during the operation.
