Greek Prime Minister Holds Talks with Egyptian President on Gaza Conflict - 1

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in which they discussed the situation in Gaza and the region, the online edition of the Greek newspaper Kathimerini reports, citing an official statement from the Greek government, BTA reports.

Mitsotakis welcomed the new proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which a delegation of the Palestinian group "Hamas" received in Egypt earlier this week. The two leaders discussed coordination and cooperation between the two countries on both bilateral and regional issues.

The conversation comes amid reports in the Turkish press that Egypt could join the KAAN fighter jet program being developed by Turkey. However, Turkish sources specify that the program does not have local engines or mass production, and the Egyptian Air Force prefers American or French fighters, and switching to Turkish aircraft would have a serious diplomatic cost.

Last week, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Cairo following Israel's decision to impose full control over Gaza, underlining Ankara and Cairo's common positions on regional issues.

Athens, which has an exclusive economic zone agreement with Cairo, is closely following these developments, with Greek officials stressing that the partnership between Greece and Egypt is key to stability in the region.
