Two people were killed and 35 injured in Israeli airstrikes on the Yemeni capital Sanaa, the Houthi-run Ministry of Health announced, quoted by DPA and BTA.

Civil defense and rescue teams are searching for victims and the injured and working to put out fires caused by Israel's actions, the ministry added. It condemned the attacks, which it said were aimed at civilian targets.

The Houthi TV channel “Al Masira“ reported earlier that the Israeli strikes targeted vital sites, including a gas station and a power plant in Sanaa.

Witnesses reported loud explosions and black smoke rising from the capital.

The civil war that has raged in Yemen for 10 years has effectively divided the country in two. The Houthis, allies of Iran, control most of the northern regions of the country, including Sanaa, while the internationally recognized government controls the south.

The Houthis have periodically attacked Israel since the beginning of the Gaza war in support of “Hamas“, another Iranian-funded militant group.

The Israeli strikes came after the Houthis announced that they had launched another attack on Israel's international airport near Tel Aviv.
