The group of rescuers searching for 10 tourists missing in the area of the Baransky volcano on Iturup Island, part of the Kuril Islands, has been increased from 4 to 31 people.

This was announced in a video published by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Sakhalin Region, the first deputy head of the department, Maxim Moiseev.

A helicopter with rescuers took off to search for the tourists missing on Iturup.

Weather conditions are complicating the search for the tourists missing on Iturup Island.

„This morning, 28 people resumed the search with a ground group. In addition, a Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian Emergencies Ministry with three rescuers on board took off to conduct search and rescue operations. The situation is complicated by the fact that there is currently thick fog on the island and periodic rains,“ said Moiseyev.

According to him, the group of missing people included nine women and one man. The first ground rescue group that began the search consisted of four people. They climbed to the top of the volcano, but did not find any traces of the tourists there.
