US Special Presidential Envoy for Peacekeeping Missions Stephen Witkoff said he will meet with Ukrainian officials in New York this week.
“And that is a very serious signal“, he said in an interview with Fox News.
Witkoff added that the US is in daily dialogue with Russia about the Ukrainian settlement.
He disagreed with the journalist's assertion that the Russian economy is “failing”. “I don't know if I would say that.“
He explained US President Donald Trump's position. "I think the president is frustrated because he doesn't think this is his war and he doesn't think this war should continue, he wants the deaths to stop," the special envoy explained.
Witkoff believes Russian leader Vladimir Putin wants the conflict in Ukraine resolved.
"That's absolutely true. He's definitely said it," Witkoff said when asked if the Russian leader had spoken about Russia's desire to end the Ukrainian conflict.
He added that the conflict in Ukraine was "very complex" but that US President Donald Trump "is committed to resolving it."
