President Donald Trump has terminated Kamala Harris's security from the Secret Service. This was reported by CNN. Former presidents receive protection from the Secret Service for life. Harris, as a former vice president, received six months of protection after leaving office, according to federal law.
That period ended on July 21, 2025. However, her protection was extended for another year by a directive signed by then-President Joe Biden shortly before he left office.
Presidents and presidential candidates face frequent security threats. There were two assassination attempts on Donald Trump during last year's presidential campaign.
According to people familiar with her security operations, Harris faced specific security concerns as the first black woman to hold the position of vice president. Those concerns have increased since she was nominated as the Democratic presidential nominee.
Harris will be stripped of the agents who guard her 24/7. Her home, in downtown Los Angeles, will also no longer be guarded by federal agents.
