Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is in the People's Republic of China for the 25th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed during the meeting.
President Erdogan stressed that Turkey-Russia relations continue to develop on the basis of mutual respect and common interests, and that the spirit of cooperation rooted in the past is maintained in areas such as trade, tourism, investment and energy.
The president stated that Turkey's efforts continue to achieve just and lasting peace in the war in Ukraine, expressing his belief that the talks in Istanbul have contributed to peace process.
President Erdogan also expressed his hope that the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will lead to lasting peace, emphasizing that lasting stability in the Caucasus will serve the common interests of both Turkey and Russia.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on Israel's attacks on Gaza and the development of Syria, while preserving its territorial integrity and political unity.
