The authorities of the Republic of Korea have reached an agreement with the US to return detained South Korean workers to their homeland, reported the agency "Yonhap", citing the administration of the South Korean president.

“There are still administrative procedures remaining. When they are completed, a charter flight will be operated to take our citizens“, said the head of the presidential office, Kang Hoon-sik.

Earlier, US authorities detained 457 people at the construction site of a battery manufacturing plant for electric vehicles of the South Korean companies Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution in the state of Georgia. Over 300 of them are citizens of the Republic of Korea. They are suspected of violating immigration laws.

The agency previously reported that most of the South Korean nationals had come to the United States on B1 business visas or under the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA) for short-term travel. U.S. authorities said those detained had been working in the United States without authorization.
