Belarus has shot down several drones that strayed due to electronic jamming during an exchange of strikes between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the country, Major General Pavel Muraveyko, quoted by "Reuters".
Minsk has informed Poland and Lithuania about the approach of the drones.
However, it is not specified whose drones deviated.
"During the night exchange of drone strikes between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, the air defense forces and means of the Republic of Belarus on duty continuously tracked the UAVs that lost their course as a result of the impact of the electronic warfare means of the parties," Muraveyko said.
"Some of the lost drones were destroyed by the air defense forces of our country over the territory of the republic," he added.
Poland stated that a large number of Russian drones violated its airspace during the incident, and those that posed a direct threat, were shot down.
Muraveiko pointed out that Poland and Lithuania were informed about the approach of the drones.
"This allowed the Polish side to respond promptly to the actions of the drones by mobilizing its forces on duty", he pointed out.
"The Republic of Belarus will continue to fulfill its obligations within the framework of the exchange of information on the air situation with the Republic of Poland and the Baltic countries", assured Muraveyko.
