The entry of drones into Poland's airspace was a planned move by Russia, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

Gawkowski, who is also the minister of digitalization, noted that Moscow and Minsk were waging a disinformation campaign against Poland in connection with the air incident.

This morning, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his country had activated its own and NATO air defense assets to shoot down drones that entered its airspace after a Russian air strike on western Ukraine.

The Polish military called the violation of Polish airspace an "act of aggression", and later in the day Warsaw requested consultations under Article 4 of the NATO treaty. Article 4 provides for consultations if a member of the alliance believes that there is a threat to its territorial integrity, independence or security.

Polish authorities continue to search for the wreckage of the intercepted drones, and according to the latest data, a total of seven of the downed aircraft have been found so far. Russia's Defense Ministry said it had not planned attacks on targets in Poland, and the Russian charge d'affaires in Warsaw said the drones came from Ukraine and accused the Polish government of "anti-Russian sentiments".
