The US House of Representatives approved military spending for the country for the fiscal year 2026 (which begins on October 1) in the amount of almost $900 billion, including $400 million in aid to Ukraine.

The document was supported by 231 lawmakers, 196 voted against. The lower house of Congress was largely divided along party lines. 17 lawmakers from the US Democratic Party, which currently has a minority in the House of Representatives, supported the bill, and only four Republicans (the majority faction) did not vote for it.

The document includes a clause providing for the allocation of $400 million in military aid to Ukraine. These funds are to be distributed through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). It provides for the conclusion of contracts by the US Department of Defense with manufacturers, rather than the provision of certain equipment and assets directly from American arsenals.

The lawmakers also included a clause requiring the Pentagon to notify them if the US administration decides to cancel or suspend assistance to Ukraine that was previously approved by Congress.

The US Senate is considering its version of this bill. After its adoption, the final document will be finalized in a special committee. Only after that will it be sent to US President Donald Trump for his signature.
