Russia is "deliberately seeking escalation" in Europe. This was stated by Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Kiev.

During a statement together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Stubb mentioned the incident with drones over Poland and the start of the Russian military exercise "Zapad".

"Anything can happen, even by accident", he said, noting that the scale of the exercises increases the risk of new incidents. Stubb added that Moscow "wants to see what the West is ready for" and stressed that Finland was closely following developments.

Zelensky compared the drone incursion over Poland to Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014. He warned that the West's lack of response in the past had emboldened Moscow.

Both leaders stressed closer cooperation, highlighting Ukraine's role in the drone war and stressing the need for multi-layered air defense.

Meanwhile, the Spanish foreign ministry summoned Russia's chargé d'affaires to Madrid to discuss the violation of Polish airspace, which Warsaw has blamed on Moscow.
