For the first time - BNB Governor Dimitar Radev participates in the meeting of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. Now as an observer, and from January as a full member, BNT reports.
The eurozone will bring stability to Bulgaria, said ECB President Christine Lagarde after a meeting with Radev and assured that our country's point of view now carries weight, and from next year we will fully make decisions on the ECB's policy. At today's meeting, the ECB maintained the eurozone's main interest rate of 2 percent.
"Bulgaria has a point of view and can express it to the Governing Council and I count on Governor Radev to do so. Bulgaria will have the right to vote, like any other country in the eurozone, and will be able to actively participate in discussions on the monetary policy of the European Central Bank, which is already your bank, part of your fabric. Geopolitical tensions such as Russia's unjustified war against Ukraine and the tragic conflict in the Middle East remain a major source of uncertainty. In contrast, higher spending on defense and infrastructure, together with productivity-enhancing reforms, will lead to growth," said Christine Lagarde, president of the ECB.
