DS Automobiles, the brand that has made the "art of travel" its philosophy, has made a serious claim in the world of electric cars. Its new flagship, the DS N°8 Etoile FWD Long Range, not only promises a long range, but confirms it in real, everyday conditions, making the worry of stopping to recharge a thing of the past.
At a time when electric mobility is synonymous with convenience in the city but often raises questions about intercity travel, the DS N°8 demonstrates impressive endurance. Production models of the electric sedan have undergone an unprecedented real-world test, covering 750 kilometres between Vélizy and Biscarrosse, in the south of France, without a single intermediate battery recharge.
The route, which included both expressways and secondary roads, was significantly more demanding than the WLTP laboratory cycle. At an average speed of 54 km/h and varying temperatures (from $12^{\circ}\text{C}$ to $19^{\circ}\text{C}$), the DS N°8 confidently finished with a remaining battery capacity of between 5% and 8%. This remaining capacity is enough to cover nearly 50 kilometres, pushing the theoretical maximum range beyond the psychological limit of 800 km!
The key indicator of success is its exceptional energy efficiency. The average energy consumption during the test was only 11.7 kWh per 100 km, which is noticeably lower than the official WLTP value of 12.9 kWh per 100 km. This result speaks volumes for the perfect combination of optimised aerodynamics (drag coefficient $C_x=0.24$) and efficient propulsion.
Xavier Peugeot, CEO of DS Automobiles, does not hide his pride: “The battery of the new DS N°8 allows you to travel without frequent stops for recharging. It is a combination of a powerful electric drive and the unique “Art of travel“ that only the DS Automobiles brand can offer.
The technological backbone of the DS N°8 is built entirely on French industrial expertise. The Long Range battery with an impressive capacity of 97.2 kWh, manufactured by the Automotive Cells Company (ACC) in Billy-Berclos, offers one of the best energy densities on the market – 264 watt-hours/kg. The electric motor is also a locally produced product, coming from the Treméry plant.
The DS N°8 is designed and manufactured in Europe, combining cutting-edge technology, refined elegance and dynamic comfort. With its luxurious interior and exceptional autonomy, it is more than an electric car – it is a declaration of a new generation of premium travel. The new DS N°8 is expected to arrive in the markets in the region soon, offering maximum luxury and autonomy to fans of the brand.
