White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said the US would benefit significantly from the minerals deal that Washington reached with Kiev. At a regular briefing for journalists, she noted that both sides could benefit from the deal, but the US in particular.

„We have reached a historic agreement to create a US-Ukrainian reconstruction investment fund. This is a first-of-its-kind economic partnership aimed at Ukraine's reconstruction and long-term economic success, from which the United States will benefit enormously. This partnership represents the economic interest of the United States in ensuring a free, peaceful and sovereign future for Ukraine,” she said.

Earlier, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko announced that under the agreement, Kiev will contribute 50% of all revenues from new rents and new licenses for mineral extraction in new areas to the created bilateral investment fund. The United States and Ukraine will have equal votes in the management of the fund. The agreement does not provide for direct debt obligations of Ukraine to the United States. During the first 10 years of its operation, the fund does not pay dividends; all its income is reinvested in Ukraine. Investments will be directed to the development and processing of minerals, as well as to the development of infrastructure.
