New price increase for basic foods, fruits and vegetables

The market price index increased by 0.14 percent - from 2.222 to 2.225 points

The prices of basic food products, fruits and vegetables on the stock exchanges in our country are increasing slightly every week, according to data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets (DKSBT), BTA reported.

The market price index (MPI), which reflects the movement of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, is rising, albeit minimally. This week it increased by 0.14 percent - from 2.222 to 2.225 points. The base level of the MPI - 1,000 points, dates back to 2005. Last week, the indicator increased by 0.82 percent.

The biggest increase in the price of vegetables monitored by the Bulgarian Food and Agriculture Organization this week was for cucumbers - 21.09 percent to 1.86 leva per kilogram, and the biggest decrease in price - for green peppers, which are down 6.30 percent to 2.14 leva per kilogram. Red peppers are up 2.15 percent and are sold for 2.85 leva per kilogram. The price of ripe onions is also higher - 2.27 percent to 1.17 leva per kilogram. Cabbage is down 1.67 percent and is sold for 0.94 leva per kilogram. Potatoes are also down - by 4.62 percent to 0.99 leva per kilogram, tomatoes increased in price by 10.75 percent to 2.70 leva per kilogram, and carrots decreased in price by 6.77 percent to 1.24 leva per kilogram.

Among fruits, the price of lemons increased the most – by 7.33 percent to 4.19 leva per kilogram. Peaches followed, which increased in price by 3.54 percent to 3.81 leva per kilogram. Apricots decreased in price by 2.93 percent and are sold at 3.97 leva per kilogram. The price of apples decreased by 0.93 percent to 2.78 leva per kilogram. Watermelons are 4.83 percent cheaper and are sold at 0.67 leva per kilogram.

The price of cow's cheese increases by 0.17 percent to 11.57 leva per kilogram, while that of "Vitosha" type yellow cheese decreases by 1.69 percent to 17.69 leva per kilogram. Yogurt (3 and over 3 percent fat content) is 4.62 percent higher and is sold at 1.45 leva per 400 g bucket, and fresh milk is 1.11 percent more expensive to 2.36 leva per liter. The price of butter (a 125-gram package) is down 3.21 percent and is available at 3.02 leva per piece.

Frozen chicken meat is up 1.25 percent to 6.94 leva per kilogram, and eggs (size M) are up 1.12 percent to 0.36 leva per piece wholesale.

The price of rice is down 0.35 percent to 3.37 leva per kilogram, and that of type 500 flour is down 2.24 percent to 1.49 leva per kilogram. The price of oil is up this week by 1.36 percent to 3.13 leva per liter. The price of sugar is down 1.25 percent to 3.13 leva per liter. by 0.22 percent to 1.84 leva per kilogram, for ripe beans – by 2.69 percent to 4.13 leva per kilogram, and for lentils – by 1.42 percent to 4.17 leva per kilogram.
