GERB-SDF will propose dropping the "water meter fee" from the changes to the water supply bill

The parliamentary group will propose that when there is a disrupted water supply or deterioration in the quality of water, citizens should not pay anything

"Water meter fee" was not well presented in terms of communication. This was said by the chairman of the parliamentary committee for regional development Nikolay Nankov and specified that GERB will propose that the changes to the water supply bill be withdrawn.

We recall that the changes were adopted at first reading at the beginning of the parliamentary week and provided that the price of water for households be calculated according to two elements - used cubic meters of water and access to services - the so-called "water meter fee".

"Our commitment is that these texts will be withdrawn between the first and second readings. We will submit a similar proposal. They are aimed at those Bulgarian citizens who have more than one home. This does not apply to all owners of homes inhabited year-round," Nankov explained.

According to him, the current pricing is extremely unfair. GERB's proposal provides that for up to 10 cubic meters of consumed water, the tariff will remain unchanged, and for more than 10 cubic meters, it will be higher.

As reasons for withdrawing the proposal, GERB-SDF cite several points:

⇒ The MRDPW did not explain the topic well and it caused reactions and concerns among citizens.

⇒ The current pricing for water supply is extremely unfair and it should not be formed on this principle.

⇒ The GERB-SDF PG will propose that when there is a disruption in water supply or deterioration in water quality, citizens should not pay anything.

⇒ The most vulnerable social groups should not pay the same price for water supply as people who fill their swimming pools with drinking water.
