Starting today, the position of mayor of Varna will be performed by the legally elected mayor Blagomir Kotsev, his deputy Pavel Popov said at a press conference. According to him, even though he is in detention, he will perform his functions and the practice of appointing an acting mayor will be discontinued, BTA reports.
The detention of Blagomir Kotsev is becoming increasingly inexplicable, because the investigative actions against him have been terminated and the grounds for his detention no longer exist, Popov pointed out. He stressed that the team's expectations were that the prosecutor's office itself would make a decision to release the mayor from detention, but this is not yet a fact.
