The torrential rains tonight, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, caused serious damage in the Petrich, Sandanski and Razlog regions. The Mesta River overflowed its banks in the Hadzhidimovo and Garmen regions and flooded agricultural areas with grain crops. There is also damage to the road infrastructure.
The heavy rains have stopped for the time being. There is only light rainfall in individual settlements. This was summarized by the Bulgarian National Radio.
The situation is most serious in the Petrich municipality, where the torrential rain that fell last night, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, flooded the low-lying villages in the municipality, flooding almost all the streets. There, drainage and cleaning activities of the mud mass continue, said the mayor of the municipality Dimitar Brchkov.
There are problems with the road infrastructure and the bridge in the area of the village of Topolnitsa. Serious deposits from the rain are hindering traffic to the Border Crossing with the RSM "Zlatarevo".
In Razlog, the city river Yazo also overflowed its bed, which required the involvement of heavy equipment, as well as fire brigade and municipal teams. After midnight, the situation there was brought under control.
The torrential rain also caused damage to the main road E-79, confirmed the Regional Road Administration - Blagoevgrad. The water has dug holes in the area of the Brezhani road junction, in the Simitli municipality. Teams are on site to restore the road surface. Farmers from the Hadzhidimovo municipality raised the alarm that the Mesta River had broken through the dam and flooded areas with wheat plantations in the lands of the villages of Blatska and Khvostyane.
Currently, the rain has stopped almost everywhere, and the situation is gradually normalizing.
