Traffic on "Alexander Stamboliyski" Blvd., in the section from the Western Park to "Konstantin Velichkov" Blvd. with a length of 1.7 km, is expected to be allowed to resume within two months, weather permitting, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev announced to journalists, BTA reports. He inspected the repair of a section of the boulevard together with Deputy Mayor for Construction Nikola Lyutov and Eng. Ivo Ivanov from the investor control of the site.
There are still a few hundred meters left for laying sidewalks and pavements. “The tram route is ready, so we hope that with good weather and tight work by the builders, the boulevard will be completed within two months“, said the capital's mayor. According to him, construction activities are moving at a good pace and with the necessary quality. “We put a lot of emphasis on deadlines, but also on what kind of site we get in the end“, emphasized Vasil Terziev.
The boulevard should have been ready before Christmas last year, under perfect weather conditions and in the absence of administrative delays, said Deputy Mayor Lyutov. He informed that due to the delay in the payment by the state and unfavorable weather conditions last fall, the completion of the reconstruction has been postponed to this year and should be ready within eight weeks. The Deputy Mayor pointed out that although the site has been paid for a little over 50%, there is 85% linear implementation of the activities, which have a total value of 46,480,598 leva.
The reconstruction of the section from the Western Park to the “Konstantin Velichkov“ Blvd. includes the complete construction and replacement of the entire engineering infrastructure - water pipes and sewage, electricity distribution and telecommunication networks, as well as a completely new contact cable network to serve the renovated rail track with a length of 3,084 meters, announced Ivo Ivanov. He added that for comfort and safety on the tram route, platforms have been built in both directions of movement, stop shelters and signboards at the stops have been provided, and everything is automated and citizens receive information about the timetable of the vehicles. Ivanov emphasized that no trees were removed during the repair; on the contrary - intensive afforestation is being done and conditions are being created for a comfortable environment and development of the green system.
