I think we are all witnessing a moment that is unique. It is unique because there are not many moments in the lives of each of us that have been achieved as a result of coming together and working hard. I want to thank everyone - governments, border police, all the teams for their tireless work.
This was stated by the resigned Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Gabriel, who took part in the ceremony of Bulgaria's entry into Schengen by air and water at Sofia Airport, Novini.bg reported.
"This day is also unique, because today Bulgaria is no longer just an observer of what is happening in the Schengen area. Bulgaria will now take important decisions, have a fruitful participation and strengthen the Schengen area. With Bulgaria, all Schengen citizens will feel safer. This day is historic because we are showing what security means through collaboration. Here I want to especially thank the EC, the Spanish and Belgian EU presidencies, all the member states that supported us. The Schengen area is one of the greatest achievements of the EU. Today is a historic moment, because Bulgaria is becoming part of it. Bulgaria becomes part of a community of millions of people traveling freely. Congratulations to Schengen and let's all continue together to the ultimate goal - the abolition of land border checks", Maria Gabriel also said.
