The home for the elderly in Bankya operated illegally, in which one person died

This was found during an inspection by the Agency for the Quality of Social Services (AKSU), which was carried out at the end of June 2024 on the alert of another administration

The facility in Bankya, in which one person died in a fire, operates without a license. This was established during an inspection of the Agency for the Quality of Social Services (AKSU), carried out at the end of June 2024 at the request of another administration.

Due to the refusal to provide information, the inspection was carried out with the assistance of the SDVR. It was found that 11 people with health problems live in the facility.

AKSU immediately alerted all competent authorities, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor's Office, about the illegal activity of the object, which is not a social service in the sense of the law. According to the regulations, the Agency does not have the authority to suspend the activities of companies that operate without a license.

The Executive Director of the Social Assistance Agency (ASP) Veselin Kojukharov, together with experts, was on site to assist in redirecting residents to appropriate social services. Three women will be accommodated in two homes for the elderly, an activity delegated by the state.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy reminds that, in order to guarantee to the greatest extent the quality of social services and the health and safety of consumers, private providers are subject to licensing. The list of licensed suppliers is available on the AKSU website. The list of social services delegated by the state is published on the ASP website.
