Sergey Stanishev: BSP is sick and it is healthier to be in the opposition

Position of the BSP leader

BSP is sick and needs to be treated from an illness it went through if it wants to there is a perspective and a future that is also in question. It is healthier for the BSP to be in the opposition, because it would enter a government from a weak position. If the leadership decides that it should be involved, it must be approved by the Party Congress, and it must be clearly stated why!

This is what former Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, former leader of BSP and PES, MEP from 2014 to 2024, told BNR.

He defined the series of 7 early parliamentary elections as "stealing the future from the people of Bulgaria":

"This theft is worse than any other kind of theft. Responsibility must be taken.... The new parliament must first deal with the conclusions of the Draghi Report and the most important topic - how to change Europe, which concerns each and every one of us".

Stanishev stressed that the elections were generally not flawed, although there are many examples of falsifications, which can also be seen from media reports.

BSP has twice been in government with DPS and suffered damage, this should be a lesson for the party, Stanishev stressed and commented that in these elections Delyan Peevski managed to build a leadership party.

According to Sergey Stanishev, "the return of BSP to the European political field" it did not take place under the new leadership and the Euroscepticism of the Socialist Party does not change.

In his words, there is concern among many people and in the BSP about Peevski's influence in the party, but "this will be evident from the actions".
